July 29 Silhouette Match

Today was the last silhouette match of the 2023 season. It also happened to be the first silhouette match that I have shot in. Congratulations to Ron Lawrence for winning 1st place with a score of 11, the highest score of this season. Thank you Brad Dickinson for running these matches and all you do in taking care of the range for our club!

Scores:

1st: Ron Lawrence – 11

2nd: Bob Vogt – 7

3rd: Brad Dickinson – 6

4th: Joe Kelly – 5

5th: Mike Petersmeyer – 4

6th: Clint Cummings – 3

7th: Carl Jokerst – 0

We also had a guest shooter from the MOHA group: Dennis Dudley

In case you were wondering about how this match works, I’ve tried to include the rules and details here. First, there are 5 groups of 4 silhouette targets at various distances. The Crows are at 50 yards, groundhogs at 100 yards, Buffalos at 150 yards, Turkeys at 175 yards, and Bears at 200 yards. All shooters shoot offhand with a traditional muzzleloader, flintlock or percussion. The only target that has a little exception is the Bear targets and they can be shot from any position, as long as the rifle is NOT rested on any artificial rest.

There are 5 stations of targets and one shooter is assigned to a station for the first round. Everyone loads their rifle and is given 5 minutes to shoot 4 shoots at the 4 targets, starting with a loaded gun. You must shoot the targets from left to right or right to left, one shot at each target. After round 1 is finished, the line is shut down and the targets that were knocked down are set back up. Round 2 begins. Each shooter moves down one station with each round, so that each shooter takes 4 shots at each of the 5 stations to complete the match. Each shooter has a score card and they track the their hits and misses. 20 is a perfect score. It is a great offhand match and is a lot of fun!
