The Woods Walk and Camping Weekend Results

I dare say the Woods Walk and camping at the range was a huge success!

We had a total of 13 shooters participate and a few less camped in mostly primitive camps. The area by the storage trailers was reserved for modern tents and campers. Thank you to everyone that participated, and a big Thank You to Mike Briscoe for putting the event on!

Due to the enjoyment and interest in this type of event, it was decided to hold a second Woods Walk and Camping weekend on October 18-20, 2024. This is the weekend after the Bevel Brothers shoot. All club members are welcome to attend and see what all the fun is about.

It is similar to our March Rendezvous event with a few changes.

  • It starts Friday morning and ends on Sunday at noon.
  • The fun targets, mostly steel, are in the range and most are located in the woods. The total shots was about 20.
  • Loading your rifle is from a pouch and horn since the benches are physically not an option.
  • Friday afternoon is a clay pigeon shotgun shoot.
  • Saturday night has a candle shoot.
  • The campers cook at their tents by campfires.
  • The scoring didn’t include fire starting or hawk and knife throwing, but many participants enjoyed private competitions with the hawk and knife station.

This event is more like a traditional Rendezvous event, but there are no strict rules on dress or camps being all period. It’s a very fun event and even if you’ve never attended a Rendezvous, you should come out and shoot the Woods Walk. The entry fee was a prize with approximately a $25 value.

The results from the shot were as follows:

1st: Art Buckowitz – 15
1st: Bob Vogt – 15
3rd: Mike Briscoe – 14
4th: Glenn Baer – 13
4th: Dean Haun – 13

April 2023 – Boy Scout Troop visits Gemmer Range

The Gemmer Club hosted a Boy Scout Troop during April and allowed them to shoot and learn about Muzzleloading. It was the first event of this sort in a few years and it was very successful. Glenn Baer took the lead in this event and many club member’s participated and donated powder and supplies so that the event was free to the Boy Scouts. Thank you to everyone that participated!
