The Gemmer club did quite well today at the Lock and Hammer Black Powder Match in Bloomsdale, MO at the Dew Drop Inn. This is a board match shot from the bench at 30 yards. There are 3 practice shots to begin with and then 6 scoring shots over an X cut into a board. Members of the Bloomsdale fire department run the event. Today we had 39 shooters with each of the 6 shots scoring individually, for a total of 234 shots.

The match had 115 registered shooters with a few less that shot in the match. The Gemmer club had nine members present for the match: Bob and Margie Browner, Walter Fett, Brad Dickinson, Jim Feeney, Joe Kelly, Tom Goden, Rick Weeks, and Bob Vogt.
The highlights of the shooting are as follows:
Rick Weeks shot 7.348″ and got 11th place overall. Also won 5 of the 10 relays among the Gemmer shooters.
Brad Dickinson shot 9.303″ and got 22nd place overall.
Bob Vogt shot 9.905″ in 26th place, and won 2nd relay for best shot. Also tied for 1st place in the best overall shot with a 0.038″ shot.
Tom Goden shot 11.33″ and got 35th place.
Despite having eye surgery a few weeks ago, Walter Fett shot 15.978” and got 62nd place.
Today was a beautiful day for our opening match. We had a very nice turnout of 22 shooters with many wearing their rendezvous attire. Mike Briscoe was the overall winner with a score of 75. Congratulations Mike! This was an entry prize match. Everyone that brought a prize was allowed to take a prize from the table in the order they placed in the match.
This match is made up of scores from shooting, fire starting, hawk and knife throwing, with additional points for period dress, shooting from a pouch, and using a flintlock. The 7 shooting stations consisted of (1) cutting cards, (2) steel turkey head, (3) hanging charcoal briquettes, (4) steel ring and targets, (5) lollipops, (6) steel circle at ~75 yards, (7) steel square at ~100 yards.
The point system was setup as follows:
2 shots at 7 offhand targets for a total of 14 shots at 5pts each for a maximum of (70 pts)
Period Dress: (5pts)
Shooting from a Pouch: (5pts)
Flintlock: (5pts)
Fire starting: 0-7pts based upon speed (7pts)
Hawk and knife: 3 throws each. Stick = 1pt; Cut = 3pts; so the Hawk had a max of 9pts and Knife also has 9pts maximum. (18pts)
Total Maximum Point is 110 points.
